Colin has spent over 40 years working in the Tax Profession primarily with the ATO. During this time he has also worked for one of the Big 4 Accounting firms, operated his own small business and spent 8 years with the International Monetary Fund in developing countries.
He has worked on the development and implementation of significant business and individual new legislation projects, led tax legislation interpretation areas and been active in the development of user centric design in the ATO .

Karen has in excess of thirty years commercial experience, with the last Twenty in a Human Resource capacity. Karen’s experience in this area has been in a more generalist HR capacity.
Karen enjoyed a very successful career in a number of respected law firms throughout South East Queensland, holding various Senior HR management roles. Prior to commencing The HR People Karen got the opportunity to work in the United Arab Emirates.
Karen holds a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Strategic Human Resources and Management Accounting, and she is an accredited Workplace Health and Safety Officer for both the service and manufacturing industry.
Karen is a Speaker and an Author of a book – Eliminate, Automate, Delegate (An essential guide for the Solopreneur). She also has many articles in various publications.
Karen Howe has in excess of 20 year’s commercial experience, with the last 15 years in a Human Resource generalist capacity. Karen has enjoyed a successful career in a number of industries such as manufacturing, advertising, printing, communications, IT and retail. Karen has extensive knowledge in the OH&S and Payroll across all industries which is where her career began.
Karen has come on board with The HR People in a HR and Staff Efficiency Consulting capacity consulting to businesses that either cannot afford a full time HR person, or prefer to use external services to remove the legal issues, and be kept up to date with best practices.

Peter Thorp is one of the founding principals of Australian Bookkeepers Network (ABN). He is also a director of ABN BAS and Australian Bookkeepers Association. Peter has been a Chartered Accountant for well over 30 years. In addition, Peter is also the founding director of PT Partners, a respected Brisbane-based accounting firm.
Peter is Australian Bookkeepers Network’s representative in various government and industry arenas, including those convened by the Australian Tax Office and the Tax Practitioners Board where he is an active advocate for bookkeepers across Australia. Peter is the driving force behind ABN’s comprehensive PI Policies and ABN’s strategic partner relationships. He is a firm believer that ABN’s purpose is to make a difference to bookkeepers by continuing to innovate and introduce new products, services and resources.
Kelvin is one of the founding principals of ABN as well as a Director of ABN BAS. He is also a Director of a respected Brisbane based accounting firm. Kelvin is a CPA with industry experience and expertise spanning in excess of 20 years.
Kelvin is passionate about business development and providing innovative learning and training to the bookkeeping industry. He plays an active role in ABN research, events and the provision of technical resources.
Kelvin is also the architect behind ABN’s acclaimed Pillars of Public Practice and the Bookkeepers Business Benchmarking Survey. He enjoys seeing bookkeepers develop their businesses into profitable enterprises.
Kerrie Jarius is the director of Fax n Figures Bookkeeping, an innovative bookkeeping practice that has been operating since 1994 in the Canberra/Queanbeyan region.
Kerrie is passionate about helping small businesses.
Her approach is to provide exceptional personal service and to enable business owners to work on their businesses rather than in them. Kerrie now has a team of 10 staff and Fax n Figures currently services more than 80 clients from a wide variety of industries.
Kerrie received the 2007 Canberra Business Woman of the Year award and has also been a state finalist in both the Telstra Business Awards and the Telstra Business Women’s awards.
Former RAAF Squadron Leader Ben Kelly is no stranger to big projects. After an illustrious flying career, including 6 years flying frontline F-111 aircraft, Ben went on to spend 10 years with Defence Housing Australia (DHA) as a member of the Executive Service of the Australian Public Service.
During his time with DHA, Ben served on the senior management team and assisted managing a $4.5bn property portfolio. He also helped develop the 6th largest relocations business in the world, relocating some 55,000 people annually.
Ben moved into the bookkeeping industry in 2006, winning the Jim’s Group award for franchise of the year (QLD & NQLD). Ben has now settled into small business consultancy and his own bookkeeping business, Cairns Bookkeeping Services.
Sophie is the founder of The Accounts Studio in Sydney, a well-established bookkeeping agency which specialises in working with designers and creative entrepreneurs to help them find cost-effective ways to turn their creativity into profit.
An award winning entrepreneur, Sophie manages a team of 5 and has over 20 years experience working in finance in the fashion and jewellery industries, and for clients such as Max Mara, Rachael Ruddick, and Fast Ed.
Having run 3 of her own businesses, Sophie is passionate about educating the SME market on the importance of building a solid financial foundation for their business. She lectures in finance at one of Sydney’s top fashion schools, and also regularly lectures on small business at various other colleges.
Sophie has grown The Accounts Studio at a rate of 50-80% for the past 4 years and has also written books and courses for business start-ups.

Sonya has 17 years’ experience in the financial services industry and 8 in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector and has a strong interest in new and emerging trends in finance, education and compliance.
As the Lead Facilitator at Group 314, a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), Sonya has developed and delivered courses for the bookkeeping and accounting industry which comply with the national training packages (Certificate IV in Bookkeeping, Certificate IV in Accounting and Diploma of Accounting). Her passion for education has also led her to further develop a range of other CPE offerings.
Damien Pigott is the Sales Enablement Specialist at Intuit Australia and works as part of the Global Learning and Development team. He has a strong background in Learning and Development, Sales and Education. From an academic perspective, Damien holds degrees in theology, education and psychology. As part of the Intuit QuickBooks team he has been working with bookkeepers to assist them in developing their unique selling proposition enabling them to grow their practice and social media presence.
Shaun Haque is the Business Development Manager at Intuit Australia and an industry expert with more than ten years of successful experience in Business Development, Accounting, Finance and Information Technology. Shaun is passionate about helping people to grow professionally. His vision and ability to nurture relationships lead to long-term solutions and success. As part of the Intuit QuickBooks Business development team, he has been working with bookkeeping firms to help them to grow their business with high efficiency, save time, improve their business strategy, and more importantly manage a work-life balance.

Ian was a tax partner with KPMG in Melbourne from 1985 to 2006, before establishing his own practice as a registered tax agent. He was previously a senior lecturer in taxation, financial management and accounting at Swinburne University for 13 years, and has also taught at La Trobe University and the Melbourne Business School at Melbourne University. He has a Bachelor of Economics and a Diploma of Education from Monash University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Melbourne. He is a Fellow of CPA Australia and a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. He has been a committee member and chair of various committees for both CPA Australia and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ). Ian commenced as Chair of the TPB in January 2013 and was reappointed in December 2015 for a three-year period.
Geoff is a highly experienced and skilled Technical Solutions Strategist and director at Surety IT. His knowledge is based on years of industry experience having worked with small, medium and large businesses in the UK, Europe and Australia.
He has been working in the IT industry since 1995, holding several managerial positions for multi-national businesses in Europe before moving to Australia in 2007 with his family.
